Based on Skopos Theory and the translation practice of the book--Science, this paper mainly studies the principles that should be applied to the translation of popular science text. Three principles--faithfulness, coherence and purpose are discussed in this paper to analyze the translation of the text from two perspectives: words and sentences.On the word level, the paper mainly explores the translation strategies for terminology and non-terminology respectively. Through the analyses, the paper suggests the proper choice between domestication and foreignization for technical terms, meaning extension and word conversion for non-technical terms. On the level of sentence translation, long sentences and passive voice are approached. In combination with specific examples taken from the translation text, the paper proposes strategies such as sentence splitting and the conversion between active voice and passive voice. In addition, the author also consults the professionals, researchers and specialized dictionary, surfs the Internet to verify the appropriateness of the translation. The paper also emphasizes the flexibility and initiative of the translator in the process of translation so as to guarantee the translation quality.
