| This is a report on the translation of the first chapter in Asperger Syndrome and Your Child, written by Michael D. Powers. Psy. D. & Janet Poland. The first part of the report is a brief introduction to the author, content and characteristics of the text. The second part is literature review, focusing on Skopos Theory by which this translation practice is guided and the development and characteristics of popular science texts. The third part is a description of the research process of preparation, translating and post-translating. The forth part is case analysis, discussing the methods used in the translation of the selected work and analyzing different problems. And the last part is conclusion. The translator mainly summarizing the difficulties and solutions in the translating process.In translating popular science texts, the translator must identify the purpose of translation, reproduce the meaning of the original text accurately and make target readers easily understand the intention of the original author. Translation methods like conversion, splitting, addition, omission and voice-changing are very helpful for the switch from English to Chinese.. |
