| This translation practice report is based on the popular science text Grain Brain Whole Life Plan and uses the Skopos theory as the translation theory to guide the entire translation process.Popular science texts aim to popularize popular science knowledge to the public in a language that is easy to understand with accurate words as well as clear and objective sentences.Grain Brain Whole Life Plan introduces the causes of brain diseases and other common chronic diseases,breaks people’s misconceptions about diet and proposes effective methods and specific solutions to improve brain function and maintain healthy.The book also advocates people to choose a healthy diet and lifestyle.Nowadays,with the growing neurological conditions and chronic diseases,this book,which is beneficial to people’s physical and mental health,can meet people’s actual needs and has practical guiding significance.At the same time,by the practice and the analysis of the translation,the author hopes to summarize the translation skills that can be used to translate popular science texts.Under the guidance of Skopos,this report analyzes the language features of the source text at the lexical level and syntactic level and the difficulties in the process of translation,aiming to find out how to translate popular science texts and make the target texts scientific,practical and popular.Specifically,this translation report focuses on how to translate specialized medical terms,common words with medical meaning and common words without medical meaning from the lexical level as well as the passive sentences and attributive sentences from the syntactic level.Various translation methods and techniques are applied in the translation process.Transplant and literal translation plus noting are used to translate specialized medical terms,literal translation method is used to translate common words with medical meaning and free translation method is used to translate common words without medical meaning.For the translation of passive sentences,in order to make the translation aligned with Chinese style,the author mainly uses five methods: the adoption of passive sentences in Chinese;the adoption of active sentences by adding subjects;the adoption of passive sentences with no grammatical marks;the adoption of subjectless sentences;the adoption of determinative sentences.In order to translate attributive sentences properly,the author summarizes the following four methods: translating it into a pre-modifier;translating it into a coordinate clause;translating it into an independent sentence;translating it into an adverbial clause,so that the logic is clear and the text is easy to understand. |
