There are many theories about second language learning and Nick Ellis(2002)proposed a second language acquisition theory which focuses on frequency. It holds the idea that frequency is the decisive factor in language learning and plays an irreplaceable role in language acquisition theory. This paper studies the influence of new words repetition rate in Boya Chinese: ElementaryI and New Practical Chinese Reader TextbookI on vocabulary learning of foreign students from central Asia on the basis of Frequency Theory by testing. The test result shows that the proportion of high-frequency words grasped in Boya Chinese: ElementaryI is 82.5%, the proportion of medium-frequency words grasped is 73.30% and the proportion of low-frequency words grasped is 36.5%. While in the test of New Practical Chinese Reader Textbook I,the the proportion of high-frequency words grasped is 73.67%, the proportion of medium-frequency words grasped is 62.70% and the proportion of low-frequency words grasped is 52%. Thus, the tested students grasp high-frequency words better than that of medium-frequency words and low-frequency words. This paper demonstrates the second language acquisition theory proposed by Nick Ellis which focuses on frequency. It turns out that new words repetition rate in textbooks have great effects on the learning of most vocabulary. However, the hypothesis of Frequency Theory has limitations. Some high-frequency words are still not grasped in the test while some low-frequency words are grasped well. The writer makes an analysis on these phenomena, finding out that besides the words repetition rate, the interval and distribution of new words, their prominence, using frequency and new words exercise all have effects on vocabulary learning. Finally, this paper proposes some suggestions on vocabulary selection of textbooks and vocabulary teaching of teachers according to test results.
