News media is increasingly becoming an integral part of people’s life, with its transparency becoming increasingly higher. Disaster news is one kind of information that can most easily cause widespread concern. In the process of internationalization and globalization, in order to reduce the barriers of information exchange between different countries, the study of disaster news E-C translation strategy is indispensable. Therefore, five pieces of bilingual news from the 24 en.com and kekenet.com have been selected as analysis objects. Two of them are about the flood caused by heavy rains in Guang Dong and Si Chuan in 2013. The others are about the Si Chuan earthquake in 2013. The study applies methods of argumentation analysis, case analysis and quantitative analysis. Firstly, relevant monographs and literature have been collected, to study them earnestly and analyze them to determine my own research direction and picking those papers closely relating to my research direction. Secondly, it is necessary to read contents of different discourses, to select those relating to Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics as the article’s argument. Thirdly, the deep discourse features of news, idiomatic patterns and translation strategies have been analyzed, based on theories of the Systemic Functional Linguistics. Lastly, disaster news E-C translation strategies have been discussed, on basis of the relevant research results of translation. Its key problems are the mastery of systemic functional linguistics theory and the analysis of both English disaster news and its Chinese version. Disaster news E-C translation should follow the principle of communication purpose equivalence and language functional equivalence, adjusting their transitivity system, voice, tone, theme and rheme, and information structure. The translation strategies are: the translation of non-finite verb, the translation of prepositional phrases, word order adjustment, passive to active, theme repetition and rheme repetition, aiming to guide future disaster news translation and provide new research angle for future research.
