Ironware is one of the important materias in the development of human society,it was one sign of which divided human’s materia civilization process along with stoneware and bronzeware. In the Pre-Qin period, bronzeware used to be major tool in prodctive life, but after people mastered iron melting technologies in practice, they found that ironware had advantages over bronzeware in productive life, so they promoted ironware’s using in warring states period. Then many vassal states’ boom had a relation with the development of metallurgy. But, it’s a long period from iron’s using as a part of bronzeware in compound of bronze and iron to pure ironware’s inventation, that Pre-Qin、Qin and Han Dynasties was the testimony of history from ironware’s appearance, development to maturation, then substituted bronzeware and became the main productive and life tools.Because of The Yangtze River Three Gorges Project, many ironwares of Pre-Qin、Qin and Han Dynasties were excavated. Ironwares were found in the Spring and Autumn period in the estern area of the Three Gorges Region, because this area was in the charge of the State of Chu,which was one of the earliest states mastered technology of melting ironware. But in the western area, which belonged to the state of Ba,ironware appeared in warring states, maybe it had a relation with the state of Chu.After Qin,people in the Three Gorges Region started to learn to make ironware from the central plains. My thesis combines archaeological materials and with some related historical documents,to give a reserch on manufacture and using of ironware explores the many vassal development in the Three Gorges Region during Pre-Qin、Western Han and Eastern Han Dynasties. The article contains mainly seven chapters as follows:Chapter one is introduction, mainly contains five aspect.Firstly is about the study object’s raising and its significance; sceondly is about overseas and domestic research status; thirdly is about the specific questions; fourthly is about reserch methods and thoughts; lastly is about problems in research and the corresponding solving measures.Chapter two is a review of ironware in the Three Gorges Region during Pre-Qin、Western Han and Eastern Han Dynasties. It including four aspects, firstly is introduction of natural geographical environment in the area; secondly is about distribution of iron mine resources in china; thirdly illustrates some historical documents about distribution of iron mine resources in the area; fourthly is the review.Chapter three is archaeological discoveries of ironwares in the Three Gorges Region during Pre-Qin、Qin and Han Dynasties.According to times, these discoveries of ironwares were divided two periods to introduce.Chapter four is about ironware types of this period in the area. It is the same with chpater three and summarizes iron types by times into two parts.Chapter five is iron-smelting technology in the Three Gorges Region during Pre-Qin、Qin and Han Dynasties. It contains three aspects:firstly is about summarise of iron-smelting technology according to archaeological discoveries of ironwares in the Three Gorges; seondly is dicussing the place where the iron-smelting technology in the Three Gorges Region originate; thirdly is about the spreading of iron-smelting technology in the western region.Chapter six is about the effects of manyvassal had on social and economic development, it is divided into two parts by times.Chapter seven is epilogue, this chapter summerizes distribution rule of ironware discovered、analyzes iron-smelting origin in the Three Gorges Region during Pre-Qin period and discusses manyvassal development scale in the Three Gorges Region 、effects.
