The Research On The Makeup Custom Of The Chuese

Hairdo and makeup are the most important components of social life history. Both men and women in the great State of Chu form the habit of combing and making up. Gorgeous and harmonious makeup is highly advocated at that time. With a combination of archaeological material and documentary records,this paper gives a comprehensive research on the makeup tools and the process of grooming and also some discussion on relevant issues.This paper is divided into three chapters except the introduction and conclusion part.The introduction part brief explained the main content and meaning for choosing this topic and introduced some relevant researches on the makeup custom of the Chuese in recent academic field.Based on the previous study of our predecessors,the research methods and thought of this paper has been clarified.Chapter one,under the guidance of documentary records,this paper gives a classification and summary of the unearthed Chuese makeup tools, including dressing tools(such as bronze mirror, comb, copper brush, tweezers scrapers, eyebrow pencil and Dai panels), basic skin-care prodoucts(such as powder makeup, lipstick, rouge, cinnabar and Dai), head ornaments(such as hairpiece, hairpins and other fixed beam hair tools) and other accessories(such as Bi, Jue, jade pendant, huang, jade cong, jade thumb ring, belt hook, jade ring, glass bead and sword).Chapter two,on the basis of the unearthed materials and documentary records, this paper analyses the grooming process of the Chuese, which is divided into facial makeup, hair style and accessoriesChapter three, there is a discussion about different makeup which reveals so many important information such as the gender, social status and rank. By analysis, we discover that the chuese makeup is a reflection of the whole society,which mainly embodies in gender,social status and rank.Conclusion part,makeup features of the chuese has been summarized. And also reasons for their unique features have been revealed---their romantic spiritual pursuit,solid foundation of their abundant material life,the urban and business prosperity,the inclusive cultural attitude of the chuese.
