The Study Of Idiomatic Expressions Translation Problem In Mandarin Teaching Books

With the rapidly spread of “Mandarin Fever”, lots more of foreign students come to China to study Chinese. In the meantime, all kinds of mandarin teaching books spring up with their own characteristic. It takes great hard work to compile mandarin teaching books, English translation, especially. On the one hand, there is no criteria,and the other, idiomatic expression are not easy for translation because of their own specialty. Therefore, translation problem is inevitable.To finish this article, I went through some popular current teaching books and picked six out of them to analyze. Compared the English translation of all the idiomatic Expressions in the textbooks with the Dictionary of Chinese Idiomatic Expressions with English Translations to realize the translation problems and make them better. At the end of the article, some suggestions about the textbook compiling were presented.Idiomatic expressions are of great importance in spreading Chinese culture. We must go on consolidate the position of them in the mandarin teaching books and pay much attention to the English translation problem.
