The paper regarde Goden Lotus(金瓶梅),Xing Shi Yinyuan Zhuan('世姻缘传)and Liao Zhai Folk(聊斋俚曲)as our study. These books are all generally produced in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty. The main task of the paper were that we systematically and comprehensively studied the development of Shandong dialect’potential verb-complement constructions. The paper carry out a detailed and thorough analysis of “V de/bu de”, “V de/bu C”, “V de/bu liao” and “VC le” by the Three-plane Theory of Chinese grammar. Four types of potential verb-complement constructions represent their different historical levels, competing with each other in usage in order to become the standard form, and further more stack-up together to strengthen the effect of conveying “potential”. By comparing the three books, the structure “V de/bu de” and “V de C” gradually decrease in the use. But the novel mode “VC le”, in the early Qing Dynasty, eventually displaces “V de C” as the major form of possible construction in modern Shandong dialect. The paper enriches the data of Shandong dialects’ potential verb-complement constructions, at the same time, expande the scope of potential verb-complement constructions in both Synchronic and Diachronic Perspectives.
