This translation report is based on Nicholas Sparks’ s newly released novel The Longest Ride. The author weaves intermingled stories of two completely different couples whose destinies intersect in profound and surprising ways. It tells us two beautiful and touching love stories. This translation report consists of four chapters. Chapter One is the task description, consisting of the background information of the task, the significance and the purpose of the task. Chapter Two is the procedure description, consisting of the preparations for translation, translation procedures and post-translation work. Chapter Three is the case study, in which examples are provided and analyzed accordingly under the theoretical guidance of Dynamic Equivalence and Translation Shifts. And the last chapter is the summary of the translation report, including the unsolved problems and an overall conclusion about the whole process of the translation work. Most of the difficulties in the translation of the novel lie in the linguistic differences and cultural disparities between Chinese and English. To tackle this problem, the translator has adopted the theories of Dynamic Equivalence and Translation Shifts during the translation process, thus producing a target text that conveys as much information as expressed in the source text which suits the target readers in the closest way possible. It is hoped that this paper may be conductive to those who are interested in the translation of or in the study of the translation of romance novels.
