This is a translation report on The Riddle of the Frozen Flame, a detective story,which tells about how detective Hamilton Cleek helps to resolve the riddles behind the missing English gold, the frozen flames and the mysterious deaths. This book is a piece of literary material and can be regarded as an expressive text.Based on the concrete examples taken from the original English text and corresponding translated Chinese version, the present writer seeks to explore and conclude on obvious linguistic features on different levels and useful translation approaches and techniques with regard to detective stories. With the help of theories including John Catford’s shift theory, Peter Newmark’s text typology and Eugene A.Nida’s dynamic equivalence theory, the translator here intends to interpret the translation matters on three levels, namely lexical, syntactical and textual level.
