The Experiment On The Own-race Effect During Judgment Of Learning On The Face Material

Judgment of learning(refer to JOL) can appear in the process of individual learning, and also can appear at the end of the study period after the test. It is a kind of estimate and judge that what results they will get in the future test from what they have learnt. Judgment of learning is prospective monitoring element level in memory. The own-race effect is a special effect on face which is found in the facial recognition that Feingold is committed to. The own-race effect refers to the individual is always better in the own-race group recognition than the unfamiliar other race face recognition.In previous study, few Judgment of Learning research is based on facial perceptual materials. This paper aims to explore from face materials, to discuss whether the own-race effect exists in the Judgment of Learning..This study includes three experiments, the participants in experiment one are Chinese and Germans, to discuss whether the stable own-race-effect exists in the face material memory and monitoring(JOL). The second experiment ’ s participants are domestic college students, to discuss the own-race-effect on perceptual processing level to face material memory and monitoring(JOL). The third experiment’s participants are also domestic college students, to discuss the own-race-effect on perceptualprocessing mode to face material memory and monitoring(JOL). The results show that:(1)the learning results and judgements of Chinese subjects on yellow face materials is significantly higher than that on Caucasian face material. The same goes to German subjects that the learning results and judgements of Caucasian face material is significantly higher than yellow face materials. There is no significant difference between experiment group.(2) in the deep processing level, the subjects of learning results and judgements of own-race face material is significantly higher than those of other race face material. At the level of asachi processing, there is no significant difference of learning results between own-race face material and other race face material, but the l judgements of own-race face material is significantly higher than that of other race face material.(3) in an in face processing conditions, the subjects of learning results and judgements of own-race face material is significantly higher than those of other race face material. In an inverted face processing conditions, there is no significant difference between the learning results and judgements of own-race face material and those of other race face material.(4)In all experiments showed JOL no significant effect on the accuracy of own-race effect.Based on the analysis of the research, the following cinclusions can be obtained:1 Chines subjects and German subjects all appear the own-race effect on the learning results and judgements of face materials.2 In the deep processing level, the subjects all appear the own-race effect on the learning results and judgements of face materials. At the level of asachi processing, there is no own-race effect on the learning results of face materials,but ther is own-race effect on the learning judgements of face materials.3 In an in face processing conditions,there are own-race effect on the learning results and judgements of face materials. In an inverted face processing conditions, there is no own-race effect on both learning results and judgements.4 Compared to study the level of judgment,accuracy of JOL is a more stable metacognitive monitoring ability.
