Judgment of learning(JOL)is an important form of metacognitive monitoring.Accurate JOL helps students allocate time properly and then study efficiently.Senior high school students are in a critical period of metacognitive development and they are faced with arduous task of English vocabulary learning.So it is necessary to pay attention to the development of their ability to make JOL about English vocabulary and accuracy of JOL through all the three academic years.This study sets three types of context: none context,sentence context and text context to explore which context helps students make accurate JOL about English vocabulary,and how accuracy of JOL dynamically develops with seniors in three contexts.The specific questions are as follows:(1)What are the values of students' JOL about English vocabulary and memory test scores in three contexts from senior one to senior three?(2)How accurate are students' JOL about English vocabulary in three contexts from senior one to senior three?(3)How does accuracy of students' JOL about English vocabulary in three contexts develop from senior one to senior three?This study used Eprime 2.0 software to carry out the experiment.The experiment included three parts: learning,judgment and test.The collected data were input into SPSS13.0 for analysis,and the results are as follows:(1)Values of JOL and text scores in contextual conditions are significantly higher than those in none context.However,there is no significant difference in text scores between sentence context and text context.Senior one and senior two students' values of JOL in text contest are significantly higher than those in sentence contest,but such significance disappears in senior three.(2)Accuracy of JOL in none context and sentence context is high.Accuracy of JOL in text context deviates in senior one and senior two,but it returns to accurate level in senior three.(3)With the development of metacognition,accuracy of JOL in none context first increases slightly and then decreases to the lowest one,and it is in a decreased trend ingeneral.Accuracy of JOL in sentence context increases steadily and continuously to be the highest one.Accuracy of JOL in text context first drops to the lowest one and then rises dramatically,and it returns to accurate level in senior three.The key development of accuracy of senior high school students' JOL about English vocabulary is from senior two to senior three.This study supports that context-based vocabulary learning can improve students' learning confidence and learning effect.Given the development of accuracy of JOL,text context easily leads to blind self-confidence especially in senior one and senior two and only sentence context can help senior high students make positive and correct JOL.
