Political transition of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China is an important status of historical events in the 20th century. Zai Feng has the indispensable significance as historical figures during the historical process of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. As the Prince Regent of the last three years of the Qing Dynasty, Zai Feng tried to consolidate the country base, maintained the feudal structure, to prevent loss right and ensure the national prosperity. Zai Feng adopted a series of policy decisions such as dismissed Yuan Shikai from his post, strengthened the centralization of power, prepared preliminary constitutionalism, and carried out the Royal Cabinet. The whole nation was shocked, and the people of the country were got angry and mad. The Revolution of 1911 overthrew the Qing Dynasty. Zai Feng recognized the reality and abandoned the narrow class position. Confronted the threat of the great revolution, his initial knee-jerk reaction was as expected, negative. Then he chose to receive the reality and do right. The Republic of China replaced the Qing Dynasty, and the political transition developed more in depth. This thesis focuses on the thoughts and behavior of Zai Feng, expounds the role played by the Prince Regent during the process of political transition according to what Zai Feng had done, and discusses political transition effects on our today’s reform in many aspects.This thesis consists of introduction, four chapters and conclusion. The introduction expounds the purpose and significance of the research. Then it reviews the research results and the gain and loss of the predecessors.The first chapter presents the concept of political transition, and introduces three main types of political transition in the process of world modern history development. Then this paper explains the choice of the mode of Chinese political transition took Japan and Germany as the target of study, and explains the evolution characteristics of Chinese political transition in the late Qing Dynasty.The second chapter describes the character of Zai Feng, ambassador to Germany, and political activist in his youth. Then he became the leader in the last three years of the Qing Dynasty. He took a sea of measures after his administration.The third chapter analyses the change of his attitude from a negative to a positive one. His mind was transformed from objection to acceptance. The reason for the transformation was the influence of social reality, historical tradition and subjective idea in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.The fourth chapter explores the negative and positive effect he played. He tried to take policy decisions to turn the ship around. As a special person during the process of political transition, Zai Feng had double significance of negative and positive.
