In simultaneous interpreting, fluency is one of the most important parameters to evaluate the interpreting quality. Frequent disfluencies may not only exert a bad influence on interpreter’s delivery, but also reduce his/er credibility among the audience. By analyzing a recorded case of a student E-C simultaneous interpreting mock conference, the current study aims at fulfilling two main purposes: to investigate the most common types of disfluencies and to probe into the causes of them in student interpreters’ E-C simultaneous interpreting. With Gile’s effort model for SI and theories on cognitive processing as its theoretical framework, this thesis adopts quantitative and qualitative research methods to analyze the collected data, and preliminarily draws the following conclusions: 1) Silent pauses are the most common type in this case study; 2) The causes of disfluencies are waiting, incapacity in listening and analysis, short memory, as well as production, inappropriate split of attention, and other reasons, such as mental tension, noise and interruption. Among them, waiting is the main cause.
