This is a report on the translation of The Chinese in Britain, 1800-Present: Economy, Transnationalism, Identity(Chapter Four), a task co-accomplished by the translator and the other four students. This book is about Chinese living in Britain and the excerpt can provide readers a showcase to know the Chinese in Britain from the perspective of institution and association. The translation report describes the procedures involved in the translation and relevant translation strategies, as well as the corresponding theories and examples. This report consists of five chapters: Chapter One is about the translation task, including an introduction to the book, the author, the main content and text type of the source text; Chapter Two is the procedure description, including preparations before translation, translation process and post-translation issues; Chapter Three is about the theory employed in the report, including Catford’s shift theory and skopos theory; Chapter Four is the case study guided by Catford’s shift theory and skopos theory, which can be subdivided into two levels: word level and sentence level; Chapter Five summarizes the translation experience, implication and unsolved problems in this translation project.
