Translation Report For "Poetic Philosophers": Logic Transformation In Philosophy Discourse

Chinese and English are two utterly different languages; therefore, there always appears some linguistic differences among these two languages, and one of the major differences is logic difference. Chinese linguistic logic applies to fuzzy logic, but English logic applies to dominant logic. If we fail to apply flexible linguistic logic, then the translation may be far-fetched, not only incapable of expressing the original idea but also distorting it. It is quite protruding to engage such kind of translational issues in the field of professional Chinese to English translating. Flexibility is required to be highlighted while translating Pascal to English since lacking of application of flexible logic will lead to a complete failure of translation. This report aims to refer the failing examples of the original translation of Pascal for the sake of comparing with the finalized translation done by this report to summarize and illuminate the flexible logic translation strategies involved, such as making it explicit, straightening and adjusting. Through practicing the exact translating of this research project, the author observed that these three strategies can be adapted successfully solving the logic differences in translating between Chinese and English, which can provide a better insight of the original meaning of the article and a smarter solution and criterion for the difficulties translating Chinese to English especially in philosophy discourse.
