The Serial Verb Construction Study Of The Modern Chinese Bodily Verbs

The serial verb construction is one of language structures in many languages around the word,the research of which has never been interrupted.Throughout the research background and status quo of the serial verb constructions in international and domestic language domain,there are many deficiencies about the subclass studies of the serial verb constructions,which cntribute to avoiding the confused and conflicting status quo of the serial verb construction.The serial verb construction of the modern Chinese bodily verbs is one of subclass studies of the serial verb constructions,and the bodily verb has particular semantic features.This paper is aimed at completing and enriching the study of Chinese serial verb construction throughout the research of the serial verb construction of the modern Chinses bodily verbs.First of all,we disuss the selection and classification of the modern Chinses bodily verbs,and then select 204 modern Chinses bodily verbs by the body parts.Secondly,we investgate the corpus of the serial verb constructions of the modern Chinese bodily verbs,and get the statistics including the number times,frequency and position distribution of bodily verbs in serial verb constructions,in order to supply the solid date to reflect the features of the serial verb construction of Chinses bodily verbs.On the base of anlysis and synthesis, centering on thoese verbs having high frequency entering the serial verb construction,we mainly study the features of the serial verb construction of bodily verbs,which contain the features of bodily verbs entering the serial verb construction,the semantic types of verbs which is connected and the special types of the serial verb construction of the bodily verbs.Then,we reach a series of conclusions,that the frequency differs for the verbs of different body parts,of which the body part is the highest reaching about 80%,the other is all around 17%-50%.The head is higher than the hand,the lowest is the leg.The bodiy verbs are awalys located in the front of the serial verb construction,and there are few middle position.most of the verbs combined are the verbs of head,motion,posture,speech and view,having specific action meaning instead of the abstract.The serial verb construction of body verbs has high frequency of grammaticalization and lexicalization,excep the leg.Then, we anlyse the aspect of the serial verb construction of the bodily verbs,and arrive at the conclusion that the aspect is conncordant rather than sharing,that is,the perfective of the first verb agrees with the perfective of the second,and the imperfective of the first is in accordance with the imperfective of the second.Finally,we explain the semantic factors of serial verb construction of bodily verbs,from the optional and the restrictional founctions of the semantic framework and semantic template.
