A Comparative Study Of Lu Xun And Zhang Chengzhi On Three Questions

This thesis attempt to explore the intellectuals 'subject spiritual structure since the 20 centuries.Basing on this point,we choose Lu Xun and Zhang Chengzhi as examples in the view of the combination of the intellectual and the writer,and addicted to grasp their dual identity as the previous two with their literary creation and cultural practice combined.In order to highlight consciousness of problems,this thesis will select three levels to proceed,that is,their criticism and self-criticism of the intellectual,the different path and subject consciousness in the observation of history,and the image change from "passer-by" to"lonely rider" in the literary works.This thesis will try to explore their choice and selection when it comes to the three questions mentioned above,and thus discriminating the similarities and differences between them.This thesis will be divided into five parts.The introduction part will firstly make comments on the research achievement of the predecessors.Based on this,the comparison of similarities and differences between Lu Xun and Zhang Chengzhi in the view of the combination of their dual identity as the intellectual and the writer will be conducted.In Chapter one,The first section gives a brief analysis and summarization of the evolution process from "the literate class" to "the intellectual" in China's modern society from the perspective of discourse theology.And it also includes Lu Xun and Zhang Chengzhi's expositions about "the intellectual",which defines the concept of "the intellectual".It lays particular emphasis on the dimensions of critical spirit and public concern,indicating their acknowledgment and realization of the status of the intellectual.And then their separate discussion of the criticism of the intellectual and self-criticism will be conducted.By comparison,it is pointed out that they have common doubt consciousness and critical spirit on the issue of the criticism of the intellectual,in which Lu Xun shows the feature of complex profundity,and his view about the intellectuals are still in change.whereas Zhang Chengzhi taking his unitiy of knowledge and action becomes an example of practical intectualls,and persisting on his own choices.And at the same time,in the level of self-criticism,Zhang Chengzhi lacks Lu Xun's profundity in self-analysis.Chapter two based on history and reality,this chapter will expound their different paths in the observation of history and the subject consciousness from the perspective of"commissioned litterateur".Here,Lu Xun emphasizes his sense of guilty as the intellectual as well as the internal relation between the individual personal and tragic fate in the level of moral obligation,reflecting the inter medium in the conscious undertaking of history.However,Zhang Chengzhi constantly reviews the history on the implementation of his overall history structure,attempting to activate the resources of revolutionary ideas,and try to make it happen,showing the continuous moving with the burden of history.Chapter three is the further explanation of chapter two,in which "passer-by" and"lonely rider" are the reflections of the writer's "subjectivity" in literary works in nature.The separate analysis of the inherent connotation of "passer-by" and "lonely rider" will be carried out firstly.The "passer-by" insists on walking("I cannot rest")although he knows the road ahead is the tomb,which shows the toughly fighting spirit in revolt of despair;however,the "lonely rider" constantly sets foot on the free and long journey in order to search for the inner "golden pasture".And then this thesis will start by the image change from "passer-by' to "lonely rider" to analyze Lu Xun and Zhang Chengzhi's subject spirit structure separately:Lu Xun walks alone in resistance of despair,whereas Zhang Chengzhi moves towards the religious belief of Zhe He Ren Ye due to the pursuit of "type".Through the comparison,the thesis points out that in the background of contemporary literature and Lu Xun tradition,behind the two different choice 's subject spiritual structure.The conclusion part is a comprehension evalution about Lu Xun snd Zhang Chengzhi,the two has common critical sprite,and subjiective attitude towards history,at the same time,they both have different choices,neither the simple inherent and surpass,nor is it absolute deviate and reduction,while it shows a more complicated features.The papers also point out that LuXun and LuXun's tradition need to be alleviated again in the conversation with the modern writer and modern society.
