《My City》the Research On The Creation Of City Life Theme Illustration

This creation is independent illustrations with the theme of “my city.” It is inspired by my personal experience from living in Hangzhou. The intention is to demonstrate Hangzhou in my eye and memory, unfold my living experience in this city for 20 years in form of pieces, and I hope it strikes a chord with people of similar experiences.Focusing on individuals’ urban cognitions, and researching residents of Hangzhou with questionnaire survey, the demand research report seeks to understand the features of their perceptions for the city and the differences among them and find data to support the concept and the independent illustrations of “my city” which speaks for certain individuals. The process of this report starts from collecting, organizing and analyzing world’s artists and relationships between their “cities” and works. This report researches current independent illustrations and applications of urban life, analyzes certain cases to understand the market demand for urban life independent illustrations.Basing upon the form of this creation, the literature research report breaks into two parts. The first part is about the connection between city and individuals. Through numerous sources from book and literature, this work organizes and understands the image of city, the parts from which individual perceptions derives and how it impacts personal feelings for the city. Research of literature is especially helpful for me to explore my understanding of the city throughout creation. The second part deals with relationships between personal experience and artistic creation, which focus on three aspects to find theoretical support for this creation including the importance of personal experience in artistic creation, the value of transferring individual experience to artistic creation, and the method of transferring individual experience to artistic creation.Design process practice report, this creation starts from individual experience,selecting my perceptions to locations including Children’s Palace, Lingyin Temple,Lakeside Park, Jiefang Street No.7 High School, Xinfeng restaurant, Qingchun Street farmers’ market, East City Park and so on, as the them of this creation. This creation adopts methods of a combination of hand drawing and computer to show and eventually exhibit 10 independent illustrations.
