Research On Foster’s Ecological Crisis Theory

Since the reform and opening up, China’s economic development rapidiy, people’s living standards has been significantly improved, however, this kind of rapid development is also hidden behind a series of ecological problems. Past extensive mode of economic growth severely damaged the country’s ecological environment, soil erosion, desertification, species extinction, smog, water pollution and some other phenomenas appear constantly, the homes that people depend on for survival are seriously damaged. Ecological crisis is no longer far from us, how to solve the ecological crisis has become the focus of current people. This paper argues that the solution of ecological crisis depends on the wisdom of human beings. In order to guide the practice of construction of ecological civilization, we should combine their own reality, absorb the achievements of human civilization, extract essence, form the scientific theory of ecology. As a representative of the Western Ecological Marxism researchers, John Bellamy Forster has a deep knowledge of the study in the field of ecology.The rich ecology writings from him provide important theoretical reference for the construction of ecological civilization in China. Therefore, this article will use five chapters to study the ecological thought of Forster.In the first chapter, Forster’s ecological crisis theory has been reviewed. This part briefly introduces the background and significance of the topic. Make a comprehensive review to clear the ideas of this research from two aspects of domestic and internationa.And find the appropriate research methods, summarize the innovation and shortcomings.The second chapter discusses the background of Forster’s ecological crisis theory. This paper indicates that the realistic background of Forster’s ecological crisis theory is the conflict between capitalism and the ecological environment and the capitalism can not deal with the ecological crisis. The thought of Marxist ecology, Western Marxism and the theory of environmentalism are the theoretical origins of Foster’s ecological crisis theory.In the third chapter, the main contents of Forster’s ecological crisis theory has been systematically analyzed. Foster described the degree and characteristics of ecological crisis by using the definition of ecological crisis.He pointed out that the capitalist society made ecological environment destruction, revealed the ultimate source of ecological crisis——the capitalist system, discussed the solution of ecological crisis.The fourth chapter makes a comment on Forster’s ecological Marx theory system. This paper considers that Forster’s theory of ecological crisis is both reasonable and limited. Forster’s ecological Marx theory has found a way out for human beings to get rid of the ecological dilemma, but he has not fundamentally solved the existing ecological crisis, but also did not fully understand the essence of the Marx doctrine.The fifth chapter expounds the Enlightenment of Forster’s ecological crisis theory to the construction of ecological civilization in China. This paper considers that the construction of ecological civilization in China should adhere to the socialist system, to understand the value of ecological civilization, to establish a sense of ecological civilization, to be based on the ecological value, to establish the ecological relationship between people.
