Objective:The aim of this study was to:(1)Explore the theory model of vocational personality of military officers,develop a questionnaire of Military Officer Vocational Personality and assess theReliability and validity.(2)Using the questionnaire to study the relationship between the vocational personality and job performance of military officers.Methods:An integrated model of inilitary officers,vocational personality was constructed through questionnaire,interview and job analysis.A questionnaire of military officer Voeational Personality was developed according to the model.Factor analysis and correlation analysis were used to examine the reliability and validity of the questionnaire.The sample of the military officer is divided into two times,451 military officers participated in the initial survey, 443 military officers participated in the formal survey, 200 military officers were selected at the same time to complete the MBTI and job performance scale.Results:(1)The questionnaire consisted of 42 items, exploratory principal component analysis of the items identified that the scale had seven first-order factors and twosecond-order factors.Seven first-orderfactors were labled as follows:F1:enterprise,F2:leadership,F3:diligency,F4:obedience,F5:fairness,F6:sacrifice spirit,F7:affinity.Two second-order factors were labled as follows:D1:task orientation,D2:relations orientation.(2)Internal consistency analysis showed that the Cronbach a coefficients ranged from 0.79 to 0.96,the split-half reliability ranged from0.75 to 0.95.(3)Interscale correlations studies showed that the correlations between the first and second-order factor scores ranged from 0.38 to0.84.All the first-order factors had a higher correlation with their corresponding second-order factor than with the other second-order factor.(4)Confirmed factor analysis studies showed that the data fitted well with theory model.(5)The correlation between the questionnaire and MBTI, job performance scale is significant.(6)The results of MBTI personality type difference study showed that the score of ESTJ type of professional personality factor was significantly higher than that of non ESTJ type.(7) Service year difference studies showed that significant distinctiones were found in scores of enterprise,leadership,diligency,sacrifice spirit,affinityand in scores of two second-order factors and total scale also.(8)Position difference studies showed that significant distinctiones were found in scores of first-order factors,second-order factors and total scale also.Conclusions:(1)Factor analysis showed that the structure of thequestionnaire was reasonable,which was consistent with the practical data.(2)By investigating the Cronbach alpha coefficient and split half reliability, the questionnaire has good reliability index.(3)Using the method of job analysis,interviews and expert evaluation method to ensure the questionnaire has good content validity.(4)By examining the internal consistency of the questionnaire, convergent validity, discriminant validity and confirmatory factor analysis, the questionnaire has good construct validity.(5)By comparing the military officer vocational personality of military service and position differences with good discrimination. It is proved that the questionnaire has high compatibility and empirical validity.(6)Military officers in the questionnaire can effectively predict the officer’s job performance. Among them, the initiative and leadership, tenacity have a higher correlation with task performance; obedience, fairness, sacrifice, affinity higher correlation with relationship performance.(7)The questionnaire has good psychometric prooerties and might be used in psychological edueation,training,evaluation,and selecetion of military officers.
