Quotation Works Of The Four Scholars From The Cheng Brothers

Cheng Yi and Cheng Hao were two leaders of the Cheng Men Literary Group which was formed during the Earlier Song Dynasty. The key numbers of the group were Lv Dalin, Xie Liangzuo,Yang Shi and You Zuo,whom were generally named as The Four Scholars of the Cheng Brothers. They inherited and developed the thought of Luo Xue and their quotation works had great influence on later literary culture.The First Chapter mainly discusses the stylistic features of the quotation works.The quotation works originated in the Pre-qin period and thrived in the Song Dynasty.This chapter aims to make a systematic study of the three kinds of quotation works.The Second Chapter examines the lives and quotation works of the Four Scholars.There are two parts of the quotation works. The first part is about the quotations works of the Cheng Brothers which were recorded by The Four Scholars of the Cheng Brothers. The second part is about the the quotations works of the Four Scholars which were recorded by their famous students.The Third Chapter is to study the the quotations works of the Cheng Brothers which were recorded by the Four Scholars.This chapter can be divided into three themes namely the literary form, the ideological contents and the the main characteristics.The Fourth Chapter is to study the the quotations works of the Four Scholars which were recorded by their important students. Since Lv Dalin died early and the quotations works of You Zuo has been lost, the study of this chapter is mainly about the quotations works of Xie Liangzuo and Yang Shi.The Fifth Chapter discusses the evolution of the quotations works which belong to The Four Scholars of the Cheng Brothers. The development and changes are about some aspects,such as the literary form, the structure,the ideological contents and so on. The influence of the quotations works lasted to the Qing Dynasty.In conclusion, the thesis aims to study in detail regarding the knowledge,characteristic, achievements as well as influences of the Four Scholars of the Cheng Brothers.
