The Thoughts Of Maxcuse’s "Art Alienation" And Its Contemporary Significance

Marcuse is a transitional thinker of Frankfurt School, his "one-dimensional"theory has got a lot of attentions recently, but people are not familiar with his "art alienation" theory. This dissertation is aimed to critically discuss "art alienation" of Marcuse, in order to make Marcuse theory wealthy.The thought of art alienation based on analysis of the relationship between art and reality. Marcuse has understanding the relationship between them as a main idea-----the truth of art is the different from reality. This main idea constitutes the principle for the thought of Marcuse’s art:first of all, Art is not a direct reflection of reality, it has exceed reality; second, Art has describe a new world which is different from reality; finally, Art is a way to liberate us from reality.The thought of art alienation reveals the truth of culture by refuted the capitalist society, and then people have got liberated from alienation of the society. Therefore, the alienation in Marcuse’s thought is means on the contrary of the alienation of the society, it is anti-societal alienation. The thought of Marcuse in order to retrieve the transcend of art, and then to find a way for one-dimensional society. Therefore, investigate "art alienation", is the foundation to understand the critical theory of society and Aesthetics. Moreover, nowadays, "art alienation" has a important guiding significance.The thought of art alienation produced by two points:the direct point in order to criticism the distortion of artistic content; the fundamental point is to build critical theory of capitalist society, is aimed to find effective ways to confront one-dimensional. According to those two points, this dissertation will starting from background, connotation and realistic significance three aspects, analysis the thought of "Art alienation", in order to demonstrated the thought to readers.
