As a common type, documentaries about figures are to document the living environment and the emotions while show the deep feelings of the figures to the audiences in order to motivate the audiences’ thinking and vibrating of feelings.The documentaries of figures has the features such as uncontrolled characters and taking emotions importantly. This kind of documentaries can be divided as celebrities, folks and practitioners of special occupation. How to present a vivid and substantial character has become the first priority while making this kind of documentaries. Firstly, the structure, as the figures’ skeletons, should be set to show the features of the figures and to contain the emotions. Secondly, the way to tell the story is the shape of the figures. The preset of the character can affect the audience in a certain way while story-type narration can make the figures lively. In addition, the scene language can form the inner spirit and the outer presence of the figures. Close-up shots can show the complex inner feelings and make a more vivid character. By which, the visual impact can be more strong than ever. The editing and montage are new processes of creation. The combination of different shots from different scenes can be very important to the rythem and the structure of the story.Structure setting, narration and the scene language are the three important things when building characters in documentaries. The structure can hold up the whole features of the figure just like skeletons, the narration can draw up the shape of figures like a brush, and the scene language can leak to every detail like blood to show the charm of the figure.
