A Report On The Translation Of Modern Romance

This is a practice report on translation of Modern Romance whose main author is America famous comedian Aziz Ansari. Modern Romance is a book about romance and love which he co-writes with Eric Klinenberg, a sociologist and professor at New York University. There is no other version of this book at present. The author expounds the attitudes and behaviors about love and marriage of modern people through many interviews and cases in point.The report is drawn from the chapter "Searching for Your Soul Mate", which mainly articulates some kind of distinction about love between modern people and older generations. From this chapter, we can find out that modern people prefer a soul mate to a childhood sweetheart to spend a lifetime, so I think a good translation of this chapter will benefit many people as an etiquette and educational guidance.After serious thinking and summarizing of the translation process, the writer wrote this report which focuses on the problems that she encountered during the process. At the same time, the writer enumerated some translation strategies that she used in the translation.The main content of this report is divided into three parts:Part one is Introduction, which mainly introduces the background about the original book and the significance of translating this book.Part two is the main body of this report which includes three chapters:Chapter one is Task Description, includes the source, academic sense and application value of the practice.Chapter two is the description of translation process including preparations before translation, the difficulties encountered while translating and the process of proofreading.Chapter three is Case Analysis. It’s the most important chapter which mainly elaborates the theory supporting the translation report and how the writer solved the problems that she encountered during the process through various translation strategies.The last part is Conclusion. In this part, the writer sums up the enlightenments, lessons and unsolved problems in the translation project.
