Now, with the frequent communication among people through different countries, there are more and more interpreting activities such as multinational meetings or multilateral corporate meetings of various sizes. It is easy to see that interpreting has become a crucial aspect in cross-culture communication in modern society. However, due to cultural differences in values, geography location, economical and political system and linguistic distinction, which brings many barriers for the interpreters., especially there exists unavoidably the lexical vacancy in interpretation caused by various reasons. Many scholars have already explored this research, and on the way to the research, they wonder how to avoid or eliminate those obstacles. By analyzing the interpretation from our Premiers’press conferences from 2007 and 2014, this article tries to find out some types leading to the lexical vacancy and comes up with some effective filling strategies to solve the problem. These filling strategies include transliteration with explanation; free translation; substitution; literal translation combined with free translation and addition of words. Though these strategies cannot fully satisfy the needs of filling the vacancy, it is still strongly believed that it is a warming-up, for scientific research is a long way to go, and final success will come as long as we try hard. It is hoped that this exploration can serve for the interpretation or daily study and more success will be gained in future in coping with this type of problem in interpretation.
