Lexical gaps caused by the different cultures from nations are a major barrier in translation and also difficult and important points in language teaching. In recent years, lexical gaps have attracted the attention of scholars of TCFL. But the study is still in the initial stage. On the basis of the research of the predecessors, the writer tries to reclassify the phenomenon of lexical gaps and explore its source. Then by the study of students'errors caused by lexical gaps, the paper finally proposes teaching advice and solutions to deal with this phenomenon, as well as puts the methods into teaching.The paper includes six parts. The first part gives the definition of lexical gaps and briefly introduces the status quo and achievement of the scholars in the study of translation, intercultural communication, foreign language teaching and TCFL. The second part introduces the types of lexical gaps. From the prospect of vocabulary meaning, the author reclassifies this phenomenon absolute gaps and partial gaps. In the third part, the author probes into the source of lexical gaps, including cultural aspects and language itself. In the forth chapter.the author introduce in brief lexical gaps are a process of development. In the fifth chapter, through questionnaires, the author studies the errors caused by lexical gaps from vocabulary meaning and pragmatic use·And finally the last chapter puts forward corresponding teaching methods and solutions, and applies them to TCFL.By the research of lexical gaps, the paper aims at serving for TCFL further improving the theoretical level of Chinese teachers on vocabulary teaching and making the teachers'teaching and instruction more scientific and effective·...
