The Chinese textbook “Guanhuajijiupian” written by famous Japanese educator Gong Dao Da Ba, is a combination of the personal experience of the writer himself during his study in china and those of his predecessors. Compared to other C hinese textbooks of the time, it has a more accurate teaching of pronunciation and more vivid, interesting and concise text. Besides, because of its pocket-size which makes it very easy to carry, it becomes very popular among lots of Chinese learners. It has been reprinted for more than 170 times which is the most record in Chinese education history in Japan and is regarded a classical C hinese textbook before World War II in Chinese educational circles in Japan.This textbook is a precious information for the study of Chinese education during the Meiji Restoration in Japan. It has a lot of advantages for us to learn and use for reference, so it worth a further and deeper study. Because of the lack of first-hand information, there is not any monograph or thesis about this issue in academic circles until now, it is merely mentioned in several history information and books in which the study of it is relatively uncomprehensive and is not systemic, remains in a extensive condition. Therefore, it is urgent for further study of this historical information.This thesis starts from the stud y of the compiling background of this textbook, clears up the change of the editions, analyzes the advanced language consciousness from the change and improvement of the pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar, explores the educational consciousness of this textbook and confirms its tremendous contribution to the Chinese education history in Japan and the inspiration from it to the present textbook which teaches C hinese as a foreign language. The purpose of this thesis is to provide new achievement for worldwide C hinese education history and a reference for the compiling work of textbook for teaching Chinese as a foreign language, thus to make contribution to the study of teaching C hinese as a foreign language.
