Population aging refers to the proportion of the elderly population in the total population by reducing the number of young people, increasing the number of older people and lead to a corresponding increase in the process. By the end of 2015, the number of elderly people aged over 60 has exceeded 220 million. By 2030, China will surpass Japan to become the country with the highest degree of aging in world. Harbin is one of cities having high degree of population aging in China. So the situation is particularly grim.In response to the challenges of aging populations, older people are encouraged and supported to enrich their leisure life, actively involved in cultural activities, social group activities, improved the quality of their life. Chorus as an artistic unity and cooperation, is coming with breathing, organic combination of sound resonance, articulation and other actions, has the character of moderate exercise intensity, and is suitable for the elderly to participate. But research on older choral activities was inadequate. They did not form a complete system of knowledge, lack of guiding role theory. Harbin elderly amateur choruses were investigated to obtain choral activities, problems in chorus development process and appropriate countermeasures and suggestions are proposed, which has important theoretical and practical significance for promoting the development of Harbin amateur choral activities.Firstly, the social and cultural background music of Harbin elderly amateur choral activities were introduced, their development was traced, their characteristics were summarized, and Harbin representative elderly amateur choral groups were introduced in detail. Secondly, Harbin four typical old amateur chorus members responsible person were interview and questionnaires. The basic situation of the chorus and currently the biggest obstacle to hinder the development of choral art activities were analyzed based on the findings. Thirdly, the physical, psychological of older and social impact of elderly amateur choral activities were summarized according to findings and research results. Finally, countermeasures were put forward for choral singing problems.According to the survey results, the total number of women is more than men in choruses. But in the age of over sixty, participation of women segment is lower than men. This is caused by our unique retirement policy. By analyzing the results, the lack of space is the biggest problem now facing Harbin chorus. Participate in choral activities to effectively meet the interests of older persons on the development, promotion of health, make friends, expanding communication, old school, worthiness and other demands.In order to solve the lack of funds and other venues and promote the development of choral art activities, the government should support, such as additional activities, increase financial support to improve policies and regulations and other means. Chorus as a host, should explore teaching methods based on the characteristics of the elderly, and should improve their own strength by combining professional choruses and intensive training, and also should establish a rational organizational framework to ensure long-term stable operation of the chorus. At the same time, market participants should be encouraged to facilitate the development of amateur choral activities.
