A Study On Yan Lianke’s Style Of Novel

As a representative of Henan writers, Yan Lianke is also a conscious stylistic pioneer in novel style. During the last three decades, he was diligent and prolific,until now he still write ceaselessly. Started career with short story,Yan Lianke was developed by the medium-length novel,and now he is famous for full-length novels. In the long writing career,he devoted many department of live soul of outstanding works for us. By reading these works we discovered a world we never knew, we can experience the life of nonentity in old city of Kaifeng,the hardship of growth of young farmers and disadvantaged soldiers, even the absurd reality of contemporary countryside. From city to village, from reality to myth, Yan Lianke changed the way of telling stories skillfully, depicting an independent world around Palou Mountain. The reason why full-length novels in later period can be a landmark of his career is not only the innovation of themes,but also the conscious exploration of novel style. For him the way of telling can even become the stories themselves.This paper focuses on the style of full-length novels written by Yan Lianke,describes his features of fictions from two aspects——language and structure, so that these works can be understood better and our writing can be directed.The introduction give an outline of author’s upbringing background and tidy his writing stages. It’s also a summary of status of research andpractical significance concerning these works. There are three chapters in the texts,the first chapter focus on Yan’s novel features of language by analyzing the Chinese idiom 、 rhetorical devices and language style presented in his works, so the motivation、effect and meaning of adopting dialects and comprehensive figures of speech can be studied. Based on analysis above the conclusion that the language of his novel,which is coming from and higher than folk life,take advantages of all quarters can be drawn. With the help of comprehensive figures of speech,Yan Lianke produced a language which is abstruse、splendid and weird. Chapter II discuss the fusion of styles in his river novel that involved the mixture of novel with scripts、documents、poetry and folk song. In this chapter we’ll also analyze the reform shown in the text,and appreciate the effects of mixture. Chapter Ⅲ will center on “Shouhuo” 、 “Riguang Liunian”and“Chronicle of Zhalie”to explore the source of “structure of gossip”、“structure of original”and “structure of chronicle”which were created independently by the author. Then we’ll consider the performance and meaning of these structures displayed in his writing. The epilogue try to attribute the diversification of Yan’s river novels to these reasons:the author’s experience with poverty and disease 、 the influence of native cultural background and some known writers.
