Mukden Incident has played an important role both in the modern history of China and in the world history which has been valued by historians.Based on the New York Times, this paper discusses how the western world recognise and how to report the authenticity and tendency when the incident occurred. This paper covers the report of the New York Times on Kwantung Army’s military activities, the reactions of government, public and the League of nations. According to those reports analysis the authenticity and tendency of the New York Times’ report on Mukden Incident. The tendency of the New York Times’ s report on Mukden Incident is changing with the developing of the situation. Research of the New York Times’ s report on Mukden Incident is of great value to explore the western’s view on it.This paper consists of three parts: introduction, main body and the conclusion. The body part is composed of three chapters.The first chapter is an introduction.The second chapter introduce the New York Times’ reported on military activities in which the Kwantung Army’s military activities is a major theme.It mainly related to the capture of the Mukden, Chowchow bombing and other incidents. The author mainly analyze the authenticity of the report through the relevant reports and historical data.The third chapter introduce the New York Times’ s report on the parties’ reactions to Mukden Incident, which is mainly related to the reaction of Chinese officials and public, as well as Japanese and the Western world such as League of Nations and the United States. Those reports has become a major theme of the New York Times. The reaction of the public opinion, which is conducive to the analysis of the tendency of the New York Times.The fourth chapter analyzes the tendency of the New York Times’ s report on Mukden Incident, which mainly analyzes the change of the tendency, the reasons of the change and the influence of the related report.
