Simultaneous Interpretation On Chinese Cultural Documentary From The Perspective Of Ideology—A Practice Report On "Taoism At A Glance"

Under the background of cultural convergence and the guidance of "going global" cultural strategies, interpretation between Chinese and Western media products has opened a door for cultural exchanges, especially documentary which enjoys a high level of factcity and artistry. However, the current situation of Chinese documentary is much worried. One of the most important reason is that the differences in ideology between Chinese and western culture raise the difficulty in interpretation. When the focus of interpretation changes from language to culture and history, ideology manipulates interpretation as an "invisible hand". Ideology has become an inevitable problem and an obstacle in interpretation. Then solving the problems caused by ideology has become a big challenge for interpreters.Taking "Taoism at a Glance" as an example, the author illustrates the influence of ideology on interpretation. Meanwhile, the author also stresses on how to choose interpreting strategies and skills on the basis of ideology theoretically. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of interpretation.This practice report is separated into three chapters.Chapter One is on the background information. The present author introduces the current situation of Chinese documentary and analyzes the reason from the perspective of ideology. Meanwhile the author defines the range of ideology and illustrates the reason of selecting this topic under the guidance of mainstream ideology.Chapter Two describes the interpreting process. The process of interpretation is separated into two procedures, which are preliminary procedure and operational procedure. In the present report, the author discusses about the preparation works before interpretation, including topic selection, material collection, device preparation and etc..The author also pays attention to how to use interpreting device and software to improve the efficiency and the quality of interpreting products.Chapter Three is the most important part of this practice report. Through the analysis of detailed example, the present author specifically enumerates the problems in interpretation. And from the perspective of ideology, the author analyzes how to use interpreting strategies to solve those problems. In this part, the author selects three pairs of interpreting strategies to illustrate the functions, which are domestication and foreignization; literal translation and free translation; omission and addition. The author introduces the influence of ideology on interpretation. Meanwhile, under the support of this theory, the author illustrates how to find right interpreting skills and strategies efficiently.The author hopes that this report can provide helpful references and inspirations to the mass learners and interpreters. Meanwhile, from the perspective of a language learner, the present author would like to link theory with practice, making contributions to the interpretation of Chinese cultural documentary.
