The Identity Paradox Of Kazuo Ishiguro

“Identity” is an omnipresent feature in immigrant writer’s works. By living in a multicultural environment, immigrant writers build their own specific worldview that can be found in their works. Kazuo Ishiguro, one of immigrant writers, has different perspective on his identity. This thesis focuses on analyzing the identity paradox of Kazuo Ishiguro.This thesis is divided into the introduction, main body and conclusion of three parts.The introduction gives a brief overview on Kazuo Ishiguro and immigrant writers in Britain,as well as the previous research done on Kazuo Ishiguro’s work and the value of this research. The second part of this thesis has three chapters. The first chapterdiscussesthe identity of Kazuo Ishiguro as a Japanese-Britishauthor.Incontrast withother immigrant writers engaged in ethnic writing, Kazuo Ishigurospeaks for no society or country, but expect to keep his identity independence. Kazuo Ishiguro is not only an immigrant author but also an international author to writer a novel that full of global awareness. The second chapter discusses the meaning of Kazuo Ishiguro’s global writing,which is different from the "immigrant themes " in mainstream Immigrant Literature. At the same time the narrative of global writingreveals his identity paradox. The third chapter discusses the unique features of Kazuo Ishiguro’s global writing, which stems from three aspects: language used, the themes throughout his work, and the writing style.The conclusion summarizes the overall value and influence of Kazuo Ishiguro’s identity and global writing, which promotes the development of Immigrant Literature.
