Up to now, Bai genre of Pingju opera(a local opera of north and northeast China)has had a history of over eighty years since it was created by Bai Yushuang in the1930 s, which was then developed by four generations of artists led by Bai Yushuang,Jr., Liu Ping and Wang Guanli successively. The article examines the characteristics of Bai genre of Pingju opera from the perspective of musical aesthetics.The article falls into three parts. Part one traces the development of the the genre from historical point of view, including the inheritance and development of the genre of the art, the representative figures and classic plays. Part two analyses the morphological characteristics of the genre. It has the fondness of massive people for the mellow voice, rich soft way of singing, plaintive lingering melodies, gentle elegant moves, lasting delicate charm, sincere deep feelings and thought-provoking content. Part three discusses the aesthetic style of the school of art. It benefits the audience with not only relaxation but also thoughts. By merging expressionism and the Stanislavski Method into performance, the genre can absorb the audience into the story and inner world of the characters, where they can find the traces of themselves and, while echoing the emotions of the characters, gain a clearer understanding of their own positions in the society, thus providing more thoughts about life for the audience. The art performance reveals the darkest, bitterest reality as well as the values of truth, love and beauty. In this sense, watching the play of Bai genre is a process of purification of not only one’s moods and feelings but also their souls and minds.The appendix is a brief introduction to Bai Genre of Pingju Opera Troupe in Tianjin City. The troupe, under the leadership of Wang Guanli, the fourth inheritor of the art genre, strives to inherit and uplift the Bai genre to take a leading role in enhancing Ping opera. The part serves as a valuable reference for knowledge of the current condition of Bai genre.
