With the development of translation, translator’s status has always been a hot issue. As time goes on, Professor Hu Gengshen redefines the translator’s status as translator-centeredness in the translating process in his book, which has aroused great interest at home and abroad. It is well known that great differences exist between Chinese and English. Besides, Chinese classics desperately want to pour into the western world. Furthermore, a translator, to a large extent, exerts significant influence on the success of a translated version. Considering the above-mentioned reasons, a research model is built to study translator-centeredness on the basis of Eco-translatology. This thesis firstly gives a brief introduction to the novel and its author and the translator, and then lays emphasis on the embodiment of translator’s responsibility at the ethical level and translator’s dominance at the operational level. Both Maqiao Cidian and A Dictionary of Maqiao are very excellent novels. Firstly, Julia Lovell is proficient in Chinese culture and history and enjoys equal popularity with Howard Goldblatt, conforming to the emphasis of translator’s status of this thesis. Secondly, the language of A Dictionary of Maqiao is the dialect of Maqiao village, which is an extreme challenge for its translator. Through the analysis, on one hand, the western readers can get better knowledge of dialects, Chinese country and even China; on the other hand, successful experience and lesson can be concluded from Julia Lovell’s success in overcoming difficulties, which may give significant implications on Chinese translators and the outgoing of Chinese classics. In conclusion, Firstly, a translator should be responsible for translation practice or the whole translation activity. Secondly, a translator should adhere to “faithful recreation” principle, strike a balance between source-text ecology and target-text ecology, and seek eco-translation strategies such as deculturation, explanation and substitution and so forth.
