This report is based on the simulated interpretation of speech on American Civil War given by professors at History Department of Loyola University Chicago. Guided by the Interpretive Theory, the author analyzes the whole process of interpreting simulation, summarizes the problems reflected in the performance and gives a detailed description of solutions. In the report, the author explores typical problems reflected in the simulation from two aspects which are information input and output. From the angle of input, the author finds out the obstacles in source language comprehension. As for output, he points out the deficiencies in target language expression. Under the guide of interpretive theory, the author makes efforts to seek solutions to the problems showed in the simulation. To improve comprehension level, the author talks about how to accumulate background knowledge, make full use of resources and practice analytical listening. As for expression, the author considers that applying paraphrase, adding explanatory interpretation and improving Mandarin pronunciation are effective ways to enhance the quality of expression. Through this whole process, the author comes up with his own understandings and conclusions to effectively guide his interpreting learning. Hopefully, it will be helpful to other interpreting learners.
