Reflection On The Contemporary Significance&Behavioral Study Of The Private Art Patronage Of Huizhou Merchants Toward Yangzhou Painting Faction

Yangzhou painting faction, as a regional art genre of immense progressiveness and value of times throughout the Chinese painting art history has been subject to continuous research. Ever since modern times, the study on Yangzhou painting faction is swerved from the representation to the in-depth exploration of the root issues.Born in the 18 th century, Yangzhou school of painting was back at that time the key representative of the local social culture in Yangzhou. Inevitably, the birth of a certain cultural phenomenon must be significantly related to multitudes of factors involved in the particular social environment. The role played by Huizhou Merchants at that time was the elite group in the sense of social economy. Hence their private art patronage behavior toward the Yangzhou school contributed non-negligibly to the development of Yangzhou painting faction, and even the development of the social culture as a whole.In this paper, the art history is studied from the perspective of arts patronage, mainly by taking the entry point of Huizhou Merchants’ private art patronage behavior toward the Yangzhou school of painting. Basically, the paper is unfolded into six chapters. For starters, the first chapter involves the reproduction of the macro social visage of Yangzhou in the 18 thcentury from the aspects of economy, politics, and culture, so as to get the authentic social background restored for the subsequent research on the private art patronage behavior. Next, the second chapter is intended to cover the main reappearance of the interaction activities between the Huizhou merchants and painters of Yangzhou painting, in which the specific behavioral patterns relative to the Huizhou merchants’ private art philanthropy behavior; Based on the specific behavioral pattern revealed in theproceeding chapter, the third chapter fixates on studying the significances of their behavior in the sense of self-escalation in social status, wealth value, proximity to the cremation and fulfillment of secular psychology. Subsequently, the discussion is launched in the chapter four centering on the favorable stimulation of the art patronage act by Huizhou merchants to the painting art market, incorporating the angels of extensive citizen stratum and the individual behavior of the painter. As a next step, on the basis of the comparison of differences between the works produced by Yangzhou school of painting and that of traditional literati paintings, the fifth chapter expounds on the impacts upon the artistic creation of painters exerted by the spiritual inter-infiltration on account of the interaction of patronage behavior between the patron(Huizhou merchants)and the painters. To conclude, by the right of ancientry to create the now, the contemporary significance of private artistic patronage behavior is reflected on based on the research on the behavioral representation and internal influence of Huizhou merchants’ art patronage, in combination with the contrast between the current United States private art patronage situation of the contemporary pop culture frontier with the present situation of Chinese private art patronage.
