A Comparative Study Of Cultural Connotations Between The Khalkha Mongolian And Chinese Color Words White, Black, Red, Green, Yellow And Blue

Any language of any ethnic group in the world has gradually formed in the process of the long-term historical development. And any of these languages couldn’t be in existence without the culture of the ethnic group, that is to say, language has an inseparable relationship with the culture of its ethnic group. It is the carrier of culture, deeply influenced by culture. And at the same time, it is the reflection of culture always and everywhere.Therefore, language bears the profound cultural connotations of its ethnic group, reflecting its cultural features. Then, there are words for color, showing strong ethnic cultural color. However, this ethnic cultural color can’t do without its ethnic cultural background.Human life is a rich and colorful cultural world. For example, "the blue color", in the thoughts of Mongolian people, represents "immortality sky", which probably means the Lord. This shows the unique perceptions of colors of Mongolian people. Here again, is the word "green", which both in Mongolian and Chinese, represents the colors of trees and grass. This is just the same feelings of the two different ethnic groups, Mongolian and Chinese, or it is the feelings of mankind.Color is the important component of the superficial phenomena of the nature. Every language has the words for colors, which contains not only the original meanings, but also the symbolic meanings,metaphorical meanings and extended meanings. Without doubt, every ethnic group has its own unique perceptions kind of colors, different from others. Some of the words for color contain particular meanings, which can reflect certain social cultures, customs and features of the times. For this reason, words for color are rich and colorful in the cultural connotations,this paper has carried out a comparative study some words for color from Mongolia Mongolian and Chinese. The study shows that the two ethnic group, Mongolian and Chinese, have significant differences in ways of life, history, culture, religion, and etc..from which you can find out the patterns of the two different ethnic group.Secondly, having found the differences mentioned above, this paper, through the comparative analysis, has also come to the conclusion the some words for color in Mongolian and Chinese reflect the different cultural features of the two. Thereby, the paper gets a further understanding of the life, history and culture of the Mongolian people and Chinese people.Hopefully, this paper can help other Mongolian researchers with their studies of their language and culture, avoiding misunderstandings with the Chinese people, creating a positive sense in verbal communication.
