Since ancient time, Chinese people have taken the method of reading Chinese biographies and historical textbooks investigate the history of China. But with the development of economy, objective and comprehensive attitudes should be taken to review historical phenomena, thus the importance of analyzing problems through a global perspective becoming increasingly prominent in modern society. This is a project report on the translation of Fragments of a Global Past:Ceramics Manufacture in Song-Yuan-Ming Jingdezhen and Through the Silk and Tea Districts of Kiang-Nan and Chekiang Province. It mainly explores how to make the textual type in accordance with historical background. Through detailed analysis of the original text and the translation, the author mainly analyzes the translation difficulties encountered during translation process and discusses corresponding solutions.The two essays in this report are about the description and recording of China’s social economy and communication by foreign scholars during the Ming and Qing dynasties, therefore the translation of the two texts will help the author to analyze the literary works as well as social and economic development during the two dynasties through a global perspective. Besides, it also provides a reference text for objective evaluation of the role of China’s economy played in the world during that time. Through the translation work, the author summarizes that to translate historical text type, the translator should accumulate certain background knowledge so that the translation can conform to the expression practice of target language. At last, the author hopes the lessons obtained in the translation process could provide some experience and reference for the future practice.
