The source text for this simulated consecutive interpreting is a speech delivered by Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the United States, at Peking University on March 22nd, 2014. The speech is mainly about Sino-US culture, education and the significance of studying abroad. The present practice report, guided by Skopos Theory and based on the simulated interpreting process, investigates the application of Skopos Theory in consecutive interpreting and relevant specific interpreting strategies such as addition, omission, literal interpreting and free interpreting.This practice report consists of four parts, i.e, task description, process description, theoretical framework and case analysis, and conclusion. Task Description introduces the background of this interpreting practice, basic information about Michelle Obama’s speech and the requirements for this interpreting practice. Process Description introduces the pre-interpreting preparations, interpreting process and post-interpreting review. Theoretical Framework and Case Analysis firstly introduces the definition, development and basic rules of Skopos Theory and then analyzes with cases the specific interpreting strategies adopted in this simulated consecutive interpreting at lexical level, syntactical level and textual level. Conclusion summarizes the main contents of this practice report and the experience the author has derived from this practice. This simulated interpreting practice shows that Skopos Theory has an important application value and guiding function for interpreting practice.
