Report On Simulated English-Chinese Consecutive Interpreting From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the development of science and technology,AI has developed by leaps and bounds,and it has entered people’s life with an irresistible trend.The discussion of AI is not limited to professional scholars,and now the general public also has many unique opinions on the future development prospects of AI.This interpreting practical report revolves around a private interview conducted by two predecessors in the technology industry on the development prospects of AI.The main content of this practical report is the interpreter’s consecutive interpretation of the dialogue in this interview and her handling of the difficulties encountered in the task.In this interview,two industry leaders delved into the future of AI development and what benefits it has brought to humanity.The interpreter hopes to convey the opinions of the two protagonists in the video through this interview style dialogue.In this simulated consecutive interpretation process,the interpreter roughly divided the interpretation difficulties into two categories,namely lexical difficulties and syntactic difficulties.Difficulties in lexical level include unfamiliarity with technological terminology and understanding of cultural-loaded words while in syntactic level include the interpretation of various adverbial clauses and inanimate-subject sentences.After in-depth study and comparison of various interpretation theories,the interpreter chose the Skopos Theory as the theoretical framework for this report.In the subsequent case analysis,the interpreter further detailed her understanding of the three principles of Skopos Theory and,guided by this theory,analyzed multiple interpretation strategies adopted,including amplification,free interpreting,explicitation,inversion,and restructuring.This report aims to provide in-depth analysis and research on the problems existing in the practical report,in order to provide reference for interpretation practitioners in interpretation theory and practice.At the same time,by analyzing typical cases under the guidance of theories and exploring solutions,interpreter also hopes to have a deeper understanding of the problems in the whole process,so as to further improve her practice level.
