The paper is mainly to have a study on the differences of the adornmentsof inorganic nonmetallic material from Xia dynasty to Warring States period in northern China. In particular, the author intends to analyze the differences and the relevant relations among the material, shape, matching and function of the eastern, central and western regions of northern China.The preface of the paper mainly defines the time range of this study: from Xia dynasty to Warring States period, the spacial scale: the eastern(western Liaoni), central(Hetao area) and western(Gan-Ning area) regions in northern China, and the research objects: adornments of inorganic nonmetallic material, generally including the inorganic nonmetallic material, turquoise, agate, colored glaze etc.The second part mainly introduces the profile of the adornments of inorganic nonmetallic material unearthed in the Northern Regions of China.Chapter three is about the detailed classifications of adornmentsof inorganic nonmetallic material in accordance with their shapes. Turquoise could be designed into the types of pendant and string decorations; agate the types of ring, pendant and string decorations; colored glaze the types of pendant, string and Dragonfly Eye decorations; and ordinary inorganic nonmetallic materials the types of ring, pendant and string decorations.Chapter four is mainly about the matching and functions of adornments of inorganic nonmetallic material. We found that in the northern regions the matching principles of accessories lies in two forms: stone adornment matches the stone adornment(turquoise and agate, ordinary stone and turquoise), andadornment of inorganic nonmetallic material matches other materials(stone adornment and bone adornment, stone adornment and Shell adornment). The functions of adornmentsof inorganic nonmetallic material could be generally divided into two aspects: the adornments for humans(headwear, earrings, necklace, brooch, waist, wristlet, cladding), and the adornments for implements(practical utensils, weapons, horse and chariot devices).Chapter five is mainly to have a study on the differences of the adornments of inorganic nonmetallic material from Xia dynasty to Warring States period in northern China, including the material, shape, matching and function differences among the three regions.The last part is a conclusion of this article.
