In art works, the charm of "tranquility" can not be ignored. Through artistic creation and reading during my graduate study I have more understandings on that. The thought of "tranquility" is deeply rooted in many art fields in our country and it can also be found in the western art phenomenon. Through this paper I want to discuss how is the "tranquility" as an invisible language in art works set up and developed. In this article we start to discuss the word "tranquility", in order to trace this word’s development in cultural history. Through interpreting this word, it can be understood why it is so important for people in society need peace in both mind and surroundings. And then this article also gives explanations about spiritual pursuit in the cultural and art fields from different perspectives and different aspects such as thought inheritance, poetry, paintings, sculptures and tea culture. Moreover, it also includes analization of the sculpture in ancient Greece and religious painting from Medieval to the Renaissance, in order to find the aesthetic expression for "tranquility" and its influences on religion. At last, it discusses the tangible and intangible artistic languages from professional perspectives to argue how the " tranquility" become one of the intangible artistic languages and find the aesthetic approaches, value and meaning of word "tranquility".By referring to a great deal of literature, examples of how "tranquility" applied in art fields was given and development clues of " tranquility " as intangible art language was cleared and various thoughts to artistic creation was provided. The art makes "tranquility" the abstract concept touchable, and even from touchable to visible. The content of painting is a node of a certain time and space in the traditional sense, it is totally different from the aesthetic spirit of "tranquility", later has more appreciation value. The aesthetic approach and meaning for word "tranquility" discussed in this article can provide people who live in fast pace and feel anxiety with methods to understand the creative motivation and appreciate art works. Through comparing the aesthetic tendency in eastern and western, the "tranquility" as intangible art language was discussed in this paper.
