Translation Quality Assessment(TQA) begins in the 1970 s in the west while domestic TQA research is relatively late. Contemporarily, even though domestic TQA research is in developing stage, still it contributes a lot to the theoretical study in translation. In 2004, by reference to Juliane House s model, Si Xianzhu proposed his TQA Model on the basis of studies at home and abroad. He revised his model in 2007 by practice and further development. For the moment, many domestic scholars focus on theoretical criticism on Si s model and there are not many empirical studies by applying this model. Besides, few empirical studies take classical Chinese essays as the discourse genre. Therefore, this thesis tends to apply Si s revised model to the translation assessment of Yueyang Pavilion and its two English versions which are respectively translated by Yang Xianyi & Gladys Yang and Luo Jingguo.By the model procedures, firstly register analysis is made of the source text. Then, two translations are analyzed separately at clause level; those Deviances of Ideational and Interpersonal Meaning in translations are picked out and explained. Furthermore, at text level contrastive analysis is conducted to those Deviances and Negative Equivalence in two translations. Finally the features are found in different translations and a general translation quality assessment is made on them.It is found that the translation strategies vary in two translations: Yang Xianyi & Gladys Yang focus on the realization of Interpersonal Meaning and the reproduction of form beauty of source language while Luo Jingguo makes more effort on the accurate expression of Ideational Meaning and target language s semantic structure.
