A Study Of The Revision Of Yan’an Liberation Daily Literature And Art Supplement (1942-1944)

Yan’an Liberation Daily·Literature and Art supplement is the most influential publication in the Liberated Area, which recorded the occurrence, development and transformation of Yan’an literature. As one of the most important links of Modern Chinese Literature, the revision of the supplement has great significance for studying the generation of Yan’an Literature and its influence on New Period Literature. This paper takes the Literature and Art supplements from April 1,1942 to February 16, 1944 as the basic research objects, and studies the revision background and format changes. It is based on the detailed reading of the texts and combines historic researches, analyzing the whole process of the supplement’s participation in major ideology, and meanwhile, exploring the creating changes of Yan’an intellectuals under the political disciplines.The thesis is composed of 4 parts. The first chapter studies the revision background and format changes of Liberation Daily Literature and Art Supplement, discussing the inevitability of the revision and the political meaning behind the changes.Chapter Two, starting from editing standpoint and policy, investigates the changing process of editing principles before and after the revision, and displays the literary feature of the supplement from diversity to unity. Chapter Three discusses the creating changes of Yan’an intellectuals after the revision from the following three aspects:creating mentality, creating themes and expressing forms. Then, it takes He Qifang as the research case, trying to explore the individual choice of the intellectuals between political and literary roads. By examining the specific texts, it gets the conclusion that the intellectuals in Yan’an have been in the state of group unconsciousness under the political disciplines, but rather, they have shown a large variety in the change of creative styles. The last chapter deals with the impact of the revision of Yan’an Liberation Daily·Literature and Art supplement on literary history. The Conclusion Part devotes to the significance and the existing deficiency of this paper.
