The Study On Wujin Chamber Of Commerce During The Occupation Of Japan(1937-1945)

The chambers of commerce in Chinese Modern Times is the product of the new policy of late Qing dynasty.November 29,1937,Wujin county in Jiangsu province was occupied by Japanese,making Wujin Chamber of Commerce stop running.After that,some merchants who chose to keep stay in Wujin chose to prepare to establish Wujin Chamber of Commerce,because they wanted to maintain their interests by protecting the commerce and markets.Because of the constraints of Japanese and Puppet,Wujin Chamber of Commerce(1937-1945) couldn’t lead its members or perform its functions as easily as it did before Japanese invasion.So Wujin Chamber of Commerce(1937-1945) had to make these choices:not only paying taxes and fees,but also negotiating with the puppet government for paying less or refusing to pay taxes and fees in secret;not only being forced to coveying the orders which were about Japanese and Puppet’s controlled economy to its members,but also promoting the flow of goods and commerce communication between Wujin and its surrounding areas;not only being seized by Japanese and Puppet,but also cooperating with the puppet government to bring relief to the people in Wujin.Therefore,Wujin Chamber of Commerce(1937-1945) chose to find the alienation in the cooperation with Japanese and Puppet,wishing to struggle to survive in the cracks between Japanese and Puppet,and businessmen and people in Wujin.
