A Reflective Research Report On The C-E Translation Of Baishan City Investment Guide

The thesis is a reflective report on the C-E translation of Baishan City Investment Guide. The “Guide” is one of the noteworthy media for foreign publicity and cross-cultural communication of Baishan. The absence of its English version should undoubtedly take responsibility for the failure to attract foreign investments, exerting negative influence on enterprises of Baishan entering international market.Based on this translation practice, the thesis aims to discuss effective countermeasures to translate ambiguous or illogical contents from the perspective of explicitation. Taking translation of the “Guide” as examples, the thesis analyzes type, features and functions of publicity text from the perspective of text type theory; meanwhile from aspects of information and logic, concludes three effective translation methods, i.e. reorganization, annotation and explanatory translation to illustrate the application of explicitation in translating publicity texts where it plays a positive role of guidance. Above-mentioned translation methods, under the guidance of explicitation, contribute significantly to reveal implicit logic and information of source text, which helps publicity text exerts its designed functions practically.
