Studies On The Barag Shamanism Of The Hulunbuir City

Hulunbuir City of Inner Mongolia is located in the northeastern part of China. There are 32 ethnic groups including Mongolian, Han, Hui, Manchu, Ewenki and Oroqen living in this territory. Barag Mongolian who lived for generations in this area believed in Shamanism since ancient times. Buddhism has been vigorously promoted since Ming and Qing Dynasties in Mongolian region. Ethnic groups in Hulunbuir except Chenbarag started to change their religion to Buddhism. However, Chenbarag people has kept well their own primitive religion—Shamanism so far.Characteristics of Shamanism, causes of recovery and existing problems of current Shamanism in chenbarag are studied by applying the research method of field investigation and literature research in this thesis. It consists of three parts such as introduction, main body (first three chapters) and conclusion.The introductory part elaborates the background and significance of this topic and the purpose and methods of this research as well as the outline of the survey.According to the historical documents, the first chapter makes theory analysis which is about the rise, decline and recovery process of Shamanism in Hulunbuir, has come to the conclusion that" Barag shamanism,which was declined due to the prevalence of Buddhism in Mongolian regions, has shown the new tendency of development by the end of the20th century.’The second chapter focuses on the respectful name, level, clothing and multiplier of Barag Shamanism. Throuth the interwiew, the horse ceremony and ritual customs of Barag Shamanism are recorded in the thesis. It also proposed the point of view that " Barag Shaman has possessed those features distinct from Shamans of other regions and ethnic groups."The third chapter describes the current situation of shamannism by investigating the existing master-apprerntice relation. Based on the analysis of the rejuvenation of Shamanism belief in Barag, proposes the existing problems and solutions. Accordingly,puts forward the opinion that " While dissolving into the folk art and custom, Barag Shaman shows the developing trend which keeps pace with the times."The conclusion summarize the whole contents and new ideas of the thesis.
