In the three elements of language, the relationship between vocabulary and culture is the most closely related. And in Chinese words, the importance of symbolic words in teaching Chinese as a foreign language is self-evident. Based on the needs of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the study of symbolic words in teaching Chinese as a foreign language is carried out in the following aspects.First of all, this article introduced the purpose and significance of the research, while the research methods and research contents were also introduced, and summarized academic predecessors’research on symbolic words, especially for the definition and classification of symbolic words.In the second part, take the book The Graded Chinese Syllables, Characters and Words for the Application of Teaching Chineses to the Speakers of Other Languages published in 2010 as a corpus basis, this paper selected 107 symbolic words to build a small corpora, after thematic and quantitative comparative study, then draw the following conclusions:in the stage of universal level and intermediate level, symbolic words are mainly focused on the basis and practical part, such as animal words, color words, digital class words and so on; while in the advanced and advanced "appendix" part, the proportion of other kinds of symbolic words is the largest.In the third part, after statistical analysis of symbolic words in the primary, intermediate, advanced comprehensive course teaching materials used by school of international education of Anhui University, and made matching degree analysis with the symbolic words come from The Graded Chinese Syllables,Characters and Words for the Application of Teaching Chineses to the Speakers of Other Languages,we found that the matching degree is not high, mainly embodied in the large number of differences and the imbalanced species distribution etc.In the fourth part, we selected 30 typical symbolic words from The classification of Chinese characters vocabulary in the international education of Chinese language to design questionnaire, take the overseas students from Anhui University as the research object, finally,54 valid questionnaires were collected, and then a statistical analysis of the questionnaires was carried out. Through the analysis of questionnaire results, then draw this conclusions:there is no significant difference in the acquisition of Chinese symbolic words of the foreign students at the intermediate level and below; while at intermediate or above level, the greater the difficulty of symbolic words, the worse the acquisition. Foreign students’ symbolic words learning was influenced by the learning interest and learning ways. Most overseas students will occasionally use the symbolic words.Finally, according to the results of the questionnaire survey, this paper makes a suggestion on teaching, selection and compilation of teaching materials, and study of symbolic words of foreign students, hope to help foreign language vocabulary teaching.
